The Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard, met with the Vice-Minister of Environment of the Community of Madrid, Rafael García González, to analyze the MITECO's new energy planning proposal, which includes 17 new substations and 463 km of power lines in the region.

The proposal from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), after analyzing 2,566 allegations, includes the construction of 17 new substation parks and upgrades to most existing ones. An additional 173 km of new lines will be built, and another 290 km will be repowered to increase capacity. Seven additional substation parks have been incorporated following the review of allegations.
Priority actions will focus on structuring the transport network, such as the Madrid ring and key axes; reinforcing system stability; and maximizing the transport-distribution interface in areas of real estate and industrial development.
Overall, MITECO plans for the transport networks to handle an additional demand of 6.5 GW, enough to more than double the current electricity demand of the Community of Madrid. The region also significantly increases support for distribution networks, largely to cover new housing developments, and for the development of industry and data processing centers.
The proposal also foresees providing access capacity for nearly 1 GW of new renewable generation.
