A large forest fire, designated #IFSierraOeste, is currently affecting Madrid's Sierra Oeste after the merger of three active blazes: #IFVilladelPrado, #IFSanMartindeValdeiglesias, and #IFAlmorox.

The Community of Madrid has requested the State to activate operational situation 3 of #INFOMA26 due to the scale of the fire, declared of national interest in the region and in the province of Ávila. The emergency was declared in the early hours of Friday, July 24, 2026.
In response to the situation, public recommendations have been issued to minimize risks. It is advised to avoid outdoor activities if smoke or ash is detected, use masks outdoors for individuals with respiratory or allergic conditions, and protect homes by closing doors and windows, as well as turning off air conditioning units that draw in outside air.
It is recommended to avoid any travel towards the affected areas and to follow the instructions of emergency services. In case of evacuation, it is suggested to have a backpack ready with essentials such as medication, documents, and basic necessities. It is crucial to follow information from official sources and alert authorities by calling 112.
The fire territorially affects municipalities such as San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Pelayos de la Presa, Villa del Prado, Aldea del Fresno, Almorox (in Toledo), Chapinería, Navas del Rey, and Colmenar del Arroyo.
Operational situation 3 of #INFOMA26 is maintained throughout the region. CENEM has requested the lockdown of San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Pelayos de la Presa, ordering residents to proceed to the interior of the urban area. Due to the fire's progression, evacuations have been ordered for Chapinería, Navas del Rey, and Colmenar del Arroyo, for which interurban buses have been mobilized.
SUMMA 112 has deployed preventive measures and attended to affected individuals, primarily chronic patients. Reception points have been established in sports centers and other buildings in Villaviciosa de Odón, Villanueva de la Cañada, Brunete, Las Rozas de Madrid, and Leganés.
Firefighting efforts involve units from Bomberos CM, Bomberos Forestales CM, Agentes Forestales CM, and the UME. Twenty-four interurban buses have been mobilized for resident evacuations, with the capacity to transport 1,200 people in this initial phase.
The direction of the Plan for emergencies of operational situations 0, 1, and 2 corresponds to the Community of Madrid, while the State Administration directs the plan for emergencies declared of national interest (situation 3).
