The Community of Madrid has gathered a total of 262 participants for the 1st Canal de Isabel II BTT Route, a cycle tourism event organized by the public company in the Sierra Norte. This event is part of the commemorative activities for the 175th anniversary of the Canal de Isabel II.
The competition, which is part of the Madrid Cycling Federation calendar, offered a route of 37 kilometers with 858 meters of positive elevation gain. The cyclosportive march allowed participation with all-terrain, gravel, and electric bicycles.
The course had its starting and finishing point at the Plaza Mayor of Torrelaguna. During the route, cyclists traversed tracks, paths, and trails of the Canal de Isabel II, passing by historical hydraulic infrastructures. The day combined sport, heritage, and nature in a privileged environment.
The route also passed through the towns of Patones, home to the Pontón de la Oliva, the Canal's first dam; and Torremocha del Jarama, a key point in water transport to Madrid. Torrelaguna, home to the historic Palacio de Arteaga, was the nerve center for the works that made the public company's project possible.
