On this October 15th, World Rural Women's Day, the municipality of Madarcos is highlighting an initiative that transformed the town through art and memory: the collaborative art project created with the local women in February and March 2023.
This tribute emphasizes the work, history, and dedication of these residents, who embody the strength and spirit of rural women worldwide. For generations, their occupations, from domestic tasks and invisible caregiving to various trades, have not received the social or economic recognition they deserve, making this remembrance also a form of advocacy.
The project, displayed outdoors and at the Town Hall, made visible the indelible mark these women leave on Madarcos through reproductions of their hands and an intimate photographic exhibition accompanied by their biographies.
