The extraordinary council meeting in Moralzarzal on October 15 rejected 6 budget modification proposals from the governing team, blocking key investments.

The extraordinary plenary session held this Thursday, October 15, failed to approve 6 budget modification proposals presented by the governing team. The opposition voted against them, blocking the use of treasury surplus to finance the urgent repair of the Plaza de Toros roof —rejected for the third time— and four projects for the maintenance and modernization of municipal sports facilities.
Specifically, a budget of 193,322.86 euros for the Plaza de Toros roof, damaged by last year's hailstorm, was rejected. The project aimed to supplement insurance compensation to reach a total budget of 353,971.32 euros and ensure the safety of the premises. The mayor and the non-attached councilor recused themselves due to conflicts of interest.
Other blocked proposals include the comprehensive renovation of the Municipal Gymnasium equipment (220,000 euros), the rehabilitation of the Municipal Pool's Balneario (146,000 euros), and the replacement of the indoor pool's dehumidifier unit (127,000 euros).
A budget of 106,000 euros to repair roofs at the Polideportivo and the skylight of the Biblioteca Municipal Casa Grande, damaged by storms and hail, was also voted against.
Finally, the opposition rejected allocating 80,000 euros for the annual payment towards the acquisition of strategic land in Camino de los Linares, a multi-year commitment approved on November 28, 2023.
The governing team lamented the lack of support, warning that delays in these interventions increase the deterioration of public assets and will raise future maintenance costs.
In the same session, improvements to schools and social services were approved unanimously or by majority. 30,000 euros were allocated for renovations and climate control at the public schools San Miguel Arcángel and El Raso, and 6,000 euros for repairing dampness in the Social Services building.
Additionally, an investment of 13,500 euros was approved for the renovation of the floors at the Hogar de Mayores (Senior Center), improving the accessibility and safety of the facility.
