The film delves into the lives of a collective of women, aged between 60 and 97, who established a theater group in Valdemanco nearly two decades ago. What began as a recreational activity has evolved into a vital space for learning, personal growth, and questioning gender roles.
These women have defied conventions by taking to the stage, expressing emotions, and facing the public, overcoming fears and social barriers with humor and determination. Their initiative challenges stereotypes about older women in rural settings, portraying them as active and diverse cultural agents.
The documentary, the result of over two years of work, follows two parallel narratives: the search for a venue to premiere their play and the rehearsal process for The Hair Salon, a performance depicting a community's fight against the closure of a neighborhood hair salon. The title serves as a slogan for resistance and space reclamation.
Directed by Vanessa Valdemoros, the project is notable for its local technical crew, promoting decentralized culture connected to the realities of the Sierra Norte region. The film is supported by the Ministry of Equality.
Beyond theater, the work embodies community, memory, and the present, offering a platform for these women to voice their experiences and gain visibility in a stage of life often marked by invisibility in rural areas.
