The Sierra Sports Association (ADS), in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, is organizing the Sierra Encounters 2026, an initiative reviving a representative regional sports tradition. The event will bring together over 380 young athletes from the children's category, hailing from various municipalities in the region, for the regional finals of Men's Basketball and Men's and Women's Volleyball.
Beyond the competition, the Encounters are conceived as a space for coexistence aimed at fostering healthy lifestyle habits and values such as respect, effort, and teamwork, thereby reinforcing cohesion among the region's municipalities.
The program will kick off on Friday, June 5th, at the Guadarrama Sports Center at 7:00 PM with the official opening ceremony. This will include an institutional welcome by the president of the ADS, José Luis Martín González, the parade and presentation of participating teams, and an address by the mayor of Guadarrama, Diosdado Soto.
Saturday, June 6th, will be dedicated to competition. Preliminary rounds will take place in the morning in the municipalities of Guadarrama, Cercedilla, and Los Molinos. Subsequently, participants will enjoy a communal lunch and recreational aquatic activities at the Moralzarzal municipal pool before facing the afternoon finals. The closing ceremony and awards presentation will be held at 8:00 PM at the Municipal Sports Center of Moralzarzal.
The ADS emphasizes that the revival of the Sierra Encounters aligns with the goal of promoting a sports model that combines competition, values education, and youth coexistence. The organization invites institutional representatives, families, media, and local residents to accompany the participants throughout the weekend.
