The municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is gearing up for the 3v3 Floorball World Championship, an event scheduled from June 12-14. The Zaburdón municipal sports complex will become the hub for this championship, attracting 51 national teams from five continents, including 28 men's and 23 women's teams, with over 600 players and official representatives.
The presentation of the preparations was attended by the mayor, Carlota López Esteban, alongside Miguel Prieto, president of the Spanish Unihockey Floorball Association (AEUF), and José Luis Martín González, president of the Sierra Sports Association (ADS). Representatives from the Fénix San Lorenzo and Floorball Escorial teams were also present, including players Eva Gil and Sara Martínez, who are part of the Spanish women's national team.
López Esteban highlighted that San Lorenzo's selection as host recognizes its organizational capacity and track record in hosting high-level competitions, recalling previous events in rhythmic gymnastics, badminton, and cycling. She emphasized the town's exceptional conditions, combining natural surroundings with historical heritage, and thanked the efforts of the Fénix Floorball San Lorenzo Club, the Federation, and volunteers, reaffirming the City Council's commitment to sports.
The tournament, contested in both men's and women's categories, will feature over 100 matches in a dynamic format. Fans can follow the competition live from the pavilion or via the official app of the International Floorball Federation (IFF). To promote the sport, a demonstration rink will be set up in Callejón del Repeso on June 6 and 7.
The Spanish women's national team includes six players from Floorball Escorial and four from Leganés, coached by Magnus Olson. Spain is drawn in Group A with Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Hong Kong. The men's team, composed of players from CDE El Valle, will face Hungary, Italy, Cameroon, and Colombia in their group.
