The presentation will be held on Thursday, September 10th, at 8:00 PM, in the upper corridor of the Main Gate of the Covered Bullring. This event marks the start of a fair that this year commemorates the 21st anniversary of the emblematic bullring.
Moralzarzal, with four centuries of history, possesses a deep bullfighting tradition. Research in the Municipal Archive dates back to 1630 and 1631 for news regarding the Patron Saint Festivals and the purchase of bulls for fighting, indicating that bulls have been part of the municipality's identity for four centuries.
Throughout the centuries, the municipality has been linked to prominent figures in the bull-raising field and bullfighting. Notable figures include the rancher Antonio Balandín in 1811, Julián de Fuentes “El Indiano” in the first half of the 19th century, and D. Vicente Martínez, whose ranch became a national benchmark, attracting the matador Salvador Sánchez “Frascuelo”. The latter resided in the historic Casa Grande (now the Municipal Library) and gifted the iconic clock on the City Hall tower.
The traditional bull runs of Moralzarzal are a distinctive mark of the festivities. This centuries-old tradition is maintained with rigor, releasing the bulls one by one accompanied by steers. As a consolidated novelty since 2023, a giant screen in the Bullring will broadcast the entire route of the bull run live.
The Covered Bullring, inaugurated on September 23rd, 2005, under the mayorship of José Mª Moreno, has been a milestone in the Community of Madrid. With a capacity for 6,000 spectators and 12,000 m² built, it is a reference multipurpose building housing 19 commercial premises and a ring with a 49-meter diameter.
During the fair, the XXX edition of the Silver Frascuelo Trophy will be held, an award created in 1994 to recognize the winner of the Novillada Fair. The work, designed in silver by local artisan Lola Escribano, faithfully reproduces the City Hall's clock tower. A jury of specialists will award the main prize and mentions for the best ranch, picador, and banderillero.
