The public company Planifica Madrid, under the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration, has opened the tender for the drafting of the execution project for this new infrastructure. The total planned investment for this project exceeds 2.6 million euros.
The bridge will be located near the historic Puente del Herreño (Herreño Bridge) on the M-501 and will connect the municipalities of Alpedrete, Collado Villalba, and Guadarrama. The project also includes the refurbishment of Santa Emilia Street.
This action, part of the Regional Investment Program (PIR) 2022-2026, includes a laminated wood bridge, improvements to the riverbanks, and the installation of LED lighting and sanitation networks. The contract for drafting the project has a base budget of 90,694 euros and an execution period of four months.
The initiative responds to a long-standing community demand to enhance road safety for pedestrians and cyclists in an area that currently lacks accessible connection between the riverbanks. The area is part of the Natura 2000 Network as a Special Conservation Zone in the Guadarrama River Basin and is crossed by the Cañada Real Segoviana.
The continuous route of the infrastructure will be approximately 950 meters long. It will start on Santa Emilia Street, pass through a section of the Cañada Real Segoviana, cross the Guadarrama River, and end on Astorga Street and León Street, within the municipality of Galapagar.
The new bridge will facilitate interconnection for residents of El Escorial in Los Negrales and connect residential areas in Galapagar such as Colonia España, Monte Encinar, and Los Arroyos. Furthermore, it will improve access to schools and sports facilities, reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The tender documents require the design to guarantee universal accessibility, with slopes not exceeding 6% to facilitate the transit of people with reduced mobility, wheelchairs, and baby strollers. The firm and signage of Santa Emilia Street, a key axis for connecting residential areas and educational and sports centers, will also be improved.
