The town of Guadarrama has prepared an extensive program of activities for the month of August, centered around the Festivities in Honor of Our Lady the Virgen de La Jarosa. The kickoff event was the Medieval Market, which leads into other cultural initiatives.
Until next Sunday, August 30, the Municipal Park hosts the Old and Occasional Book Fair, organized by the La Galatea Booksellers Association. This event, promoted by the Culture Department, offers readers the chance to find editorial gems and out-of-print books.
The patron saint festivities will officially commence on Saturday, August 8, with the traditional Descent of the Virgin. The image will be transferred from the Hermitage at the La Jarosa reservoir to the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel on a float pulled by oxen, covering over two kilometers accompanied by the Guadarrama Horse Friends Association and numerous residents. The procession will depart at 8:00 PM, with the Virgin expected to arrive around 10:00 PM, where she will be welcomed by the church choir.
To facilitate access to the procession, a free and continuous bus service will be provided from the Plaza Mayor to the Hermitage of La Jarosa between 6:15 PM and 7:45 PM.
The Virgen de La Jarosa will remain in the Parish Church until August 15. During this period, the Brotherhood of Romeros and the Parish of San Miguel Arcángel will hold a triduum on August 12, 13, and 14, and a floral offering on August 14.
On Friday, August 15, the main day of the festivities will be celebrated with the traditional Pilgrimage to La Jarosa. Events will begin at 9:00 AM with a solemn mass, followed by the ascent of the image back to the reservoir. The day will include a popular paella, a float parade, and children's activities such as games and inflatables. Celebrations at the Sierra parking lot will extend from August 13 to 15, featuring morning activities for children and evening parties.
The leisure agenda from August 10 to 16 includes, on Sunday, August 10, at 10:00 AM, the Clay Pigeon Shooting sporting event at the La Porqueriza Shooting Range, organized by the Guadarrama Hunters and Fishermen Club.
On Thursday, August 13, children will enjoy the Water Festival at the municipal parking lot (11:00 AM - 2:30 PM). On Friday, August 14, Mareo Park will host workshops and water activities (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM), while at night, from 10:30 PM to 4:00 AM, the «Tokio» mega-disco will liven up the Sierra parking lot.
After the Pilgrimage on Saturday, August 15, at 10:30 PM, the show «Embrujo, Zarzuela Flamenco» will be presented for all audiences. Following this, Manuel Gonzalez, former member of the group Los Rebujitos, will perform, and DJ Alex Gonzalez will entertain the younger crowd until 4:00 AM at the Sierra parking lot.
On Sunday, August 16, at 11:00 AM, the Plaza Mayor will host the puppet show «La fiesta del queso y el hada limonada» (The Cheese Festival and the Lemonade Fairy), organized by the La Maliciosa Social Services Association and the Department of Social Action and Family.
As part of the program, the La Maliciosa Association will distribute glasses with coasters under the slogan “Fiesta con♀︎sentimiento” (Party with♀︎feeling) as an initiative against sexist violence.
