Guadarrama's Aula de Humanidades, in collaboration with the University of Alcalá, has concluded its academic year with an official diploma award ceremony. The event took place in the emblematic San Ildefonso chapel, a frequent venue for the university's degree celebrations.
The closing ceremony was attended by local and academic authorities, including the mayor of Guadarrama and the Vice-Rector for Own Degrees, Employability, and Business Relations of the University of Alcalá. Also present were Guadarrama's Councilor for Education and Culture, the course director, and the coordinator of the Aula de Humanidades.
During the event, certificates of completion were awarded in front of the cenotaph of Cardinal Cisneros. The course director, Daniel Justel, highlighted the positive reception and development of the program, emphasizing how the University of Alcalá has provided a multidisciplinary educational space to understand migrations and their historical and current repercussions.
Representing the students, Carmen Capuz reviewed the topics covered, underscoring the value of diverse perspectives in fostering critical thinking and understanding contemporary conflicts.
Jesús Carrasco, coordinator of the Aula de Humanidades, reported that the course involved 19 professors and met students' expectations. He explained the choice of the migration theme due to its current relevance and the intrinsic nature of humans as migratory beings, emphasizing how these movements generate transformation and cultural hybridization.
The mayor of Guadarrama, Diosdado Soto, expressed pride in the educational model of the Aula de Humanidades and the 18-year collaboration with the University of Alcalá, which has resulted in over a thousand enrollments and established the educational offering as a benchmark in the Sierra region.
Soto added that this teaching and reflection model attracts numerous students, and while similar initiatives exist elsewhere, Guadarrama's Aula de Humanidades stands out for its uniqueness, a result of the collaboration between the university and the municipality.
The course directors are already working on the next edition, which will focus on 'Power and Authority' and will be available from September 2026. It will feature professors from the University of Alcalá and specialists from other institutions.
