This project represents a significant step forward for the connectivity of the northern sierra of Madrid, extending the C-4b commuter line from Colmenar Viejo. The new infrastructure will be located on the same site as the old Manzanares – Soto del Real station, on the 102 Madrid–Burgos railway line.
The Soto Sur station aims to provide a sustainable transport alternative for residents of Soto del Real, Miraflores de la Sierra, and Guadalix de la Sierra, facilitating access to the capital and other points of the commuter network. This action is part of the Madrid Commuter Plan, focused on expanding the network to areas with high demand for sustainable mobility.
Among the main features of the project is the rehabilitation of the historic building of the old station, built in 1955 and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. This 412.7 square meter building will house the lobby, ticket sales area, and restrooms, incorporating solar energy and natural ventilation systems to improve its energy efficiency. Additionally, a new building for a cafeteria and technical modules will be constructed.
The platforms, 240 meters long, will feature canopies covering 80 meters to protect users. A key aspect is the creation of a car park with 513 spaces, including 16 for people with reduced mobility. The surrounding area will be urbanized with new internal roads and the replacement of the existing bike path. During construction, a provisional module for passenger access and control will be installed, allowing the station to operate before the total completion of the works.
For the execution of the project, 26,488 square meters of rural land in Soto del Real will be expropriated, in addition to 212 square meters under easement and 3,352 square meters of temporary occupation. The administrative resolution now opens a period of public information and calls affected owners to the preliminary acts of occupation, scheduled for June 2, 2026.
This project joins other initiatives by the Ministry of Transport in the Madrid Commuter network, such as the expansion of the Atocha and Chamartín hubs, the duplication of the Pinar de Las Rozas–Las Matas section, and the future extension to Illescas. New stations like Tres Cantos Norte, Fuencarral-Malmea, and Imperial are also being promoted, and work is underway on the remodeling of the Alcalá de Henares station.
