The Hospital Universitario El Escorial, part of the public healthcare network of the Community of Madrid, has achieved the prestigious EFQM 500+ quality seal. This international recognition certifies the hospital's progress towards management characterized by excellence, innovation, and sustainability, focused on creating value for patients, professionals, and the community.
The distinction specifically values initiatives implemented in recent years in key areas such as care quality, patient safety, humanization of care, innovation, and sustainable practices. The hospital's Managing Director, Rosa Fernández Lobato, highlighted that this achievement reflects the collective effort of all staff and their commitment throughout the preparation and evaluation process.
The EFQM model comprehensively assesses organizational functioning, analyzing aspects like purpose, strategy, leadership, professional involvement, and stakeholder relations. The external evaluation has identified both the center's consolidated strengths and areas for improvement in future cycles.
This 500+ level marks a significant milestone, surpassing the 400+ level previously attained in 2018 and renewed in 2023. The center has continued to develop improvement programs, incorporating methodologies like Lean and fostering open, participatory leadership to optimize its processes.
Future challenges include consolidating improvements and strengthening teaching, innovation, and research. The recognition underscores the hospital's commitment to safe, high-quality, efficient, and person-centered care, integrating scientific excellence with a sustainable and humanized healthcare environment.
