The El Escorial Town Council has approved the 2026 Honors and Distinctions, an initiative to acknowledge the contributions of residents, businesses, and institutions to the municipality's development in areas such as culture, society, and traditions.

These recognitions, which have become a tradition, will be presented during the upcoming San Bernabé Festivities. The Institutional Protocol Department has emphasized the importance of valuing those who enrich the town and transmit its traditions across generations, fostering social cohesion.

"We are very proud of everyone. Thanks to each of them and their involvement, which allows us to forge and improve the identity of the town we are."

Among the honorees, Honorary Mentions will be awarded for the first time to the Aulencia Association, for its work in the social integration of young people with special needs, and to the Meridiano Cultural Association, for its musical trajectory and cultural dissemination.
In the Titles category, the Favorite Son of the Villa has been granted to a veterinarian with an extensive career and a strong connection to local livestock farming. The Gold Medals will be presented to the Community of the City and Land of Segovia, currently chaired by the Mayor of Segovia, in recognition of the historical ties and traditions that unite both communities through the Sexmo de Casarrubios, of which El Escorial is the head.
The Medal for Business Merit this year goes to Ferretería Los Mellizos, a local hardware store that opened its doors in 1981 and has established itself as a historic establishment in the municipality thanks to its professionalism and service vocation.
Additionally, Service Medals will be awarded to several individuals coinciding with their retirement year, and a 25-year Permanence Medal in the Local Police force will be given to an officer. The public award ceremony will take place on June 10, the eve of San Bernabé, in the Lorenzo Fernández Panadero Gardens.
