The conference, scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM at the Casa de Cultura Alfonso X el Sabio, will be led by journalist Paz Fernández-Xesta, who had a professional career at RTVE. This event, organized by the Department of Culture through the Humanities Classroom, offers free admission until full capacity is reached.
Göbekli Tepe, meaning 'potbelly hill' in Turkish, is a monument located near Sanliurfa (Turkey). Discovered in 1994 by German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt, the site has sparked intense scientific debate regarding its purpose and the civilization it belongs to. Its discovery, along with similar sites like Karahantepe, has prompted the scientific community to reconsider the timeline of human settlement, pushing back the dates for the Neolithic Revolution and the emergence of complex societies.
The lecture aims to help attendees understand the significance of Göbekli Tepe and Karahantepe, delving into the main theories attempting to explain this enigmatic site. Paz Fernández-Xesta will highlight the most significant aspects of the discovery and the questions that remain unanswered.
This conference is part of the regular programming of the Humanities Classroom of Guadarrama, which includes various courses, talks, and cultural activities.
