Atlético Leones' victory over El Escorial (0-2) in the promotion match to Preferente could be overturned by the RFFM Competition Committee due to the use of a fourth substitution window, a regulatory infraction.

The race for promotion to the Preferente category between El Escorial and Atlético Leones might be decided off the field. The Competition Committee of the Royal Madrid Football Federation (RFFM) could revoke the 0-2 victory for the Guadarrama team and award a 3-0 win to the team from La Villa. The reason cited is the alleged use of a fourth substitution window in the 89th minute of the match, exceeding the regulatory limit of three for the second half in amateur football in Madrid.
The match report, compiled by referee Aitor Hinjos, the sole official on the field, details that Atlético Leones utilized four substitution windows: the first with a double change, the second and third with single substitutions, and the final, controversial one, again with two changes in the 89th minute. At that point, the score was 0-2 in favor of Atlético Leones, with goals from Rodro and Arturo in the second half.
With this scoreline, the Guadarrama team would have overtaken El Escorial in the standings, holding a two-point advantage and the head-to-head tiebreaker with two matchdays remaining. Now, the resolution of the investigation that CD El Escorial will undoubtedly file with the Competition Committee could drastically alter the situation, granting an administrative promotion to the team from La Villa. Federation sources suggest the final decision might take one to two weeks, pending the teams' appeals.
Such infractions, like exceeding substitution windows, are now being penalized as improper lineup, a rule revised last summer. Previously, the penalty was limited to a financial fine. The current regulations, outlined in Article 642, Chapter VI of the Competition Rules, stipulate that the offending team forfeits the match, particularly if the number of permitted substitutions or the windows to make them are exceeded.
A similar case occurred in the Infantil Superliga between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, where the Madrid team lost 0-3 for making four substitution windows, although the Competition Committee deemed there was no bad faith. In the Atlético Leones case, the club is preparing its defense, potentially arguing a lack of bad faith and that the referee, along with a federation observer who supervised the match, approved the final window, according to club president Joe Maset.
The Competition Committee's final decision will determine if Atlético Leones committed an improper lineup violation. If confirmed, El Escorial would be promoted to Preferente, while the Guadarrama team would lose the victory they celebrated in the Navaarmado locker room, marking an unprecedented event in amateur football in the Sierra region.
