The Casa de la Cultura in San Lorenzo de El Escorial is hosting the exhibition “Antón Casamor: Form and Essence,” a journey through the work of the Catalan sculptor, available for viewing from April 13 to May 5, showcasing his early 20th-century artistic vision.

The exhibition pays tribute to Antón Casamor (Barcelona, 1926Navata, 1979), a versatile artist who trained in Figueres and Barcelona. Known for his friendship with Salvador Dalí and as a disciple of masters like Juan Núñez and Josep Dunyac, Casamor left a significant mark in sculpture, painting, and drawing.
His style, aligned with Novecentismo, shares affinities with figures such as Eusebi Clarà and Aristides Maillol. Casamor's work is distinguished by its serenity and formal precision, especially in his female nudes, where simplicity transforms into profound poetic expression.
The exhibition, inaugurated last Saturday, is organized into three interconnected spaces that guide visitors through the artist's trajectory. The inner gallery displays drawings and landscapes, leading to the main hall where sculptures, paintings, and religious works are housed. The journey culminates in the courtyard of the Casa de la Cultura, which features various sculptures in different materials, demonstrating Casamor's versatility and talent for capturing the essence of form and emotion.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to appreciate Antón Casamor's work within the historical and artistic heritage of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, highlighting his expressive power and sensitivity in the Spanish art scene.
Those interested can visit the exhibition from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays, from 10:00 to 13:30. It will be closed on Sundays and on May 2 and 3.
