A man has accepted a sentence of three years and nine months in prison for dousing his wife with gasoline and threatening to kill her at their home in Villanueva del Pardillo, following an agreement between the parties.

The accused of dousing his wife with gasoline and threatening to kill her in their shared home in Villanueva del Pardillo accepted a sentence of three years and nine months in prison this Tuesday after admitting the facts before the Provincial Court of Madrid.
The conformity agreement between the parties, reached just before the start of the oral hearing, resulted in a drastic reduction of the sentence compared to the 15 years and nine months initially sought by the Public Prosecutor's Office for the crimes of attempted murder and domestic injuries.
The substantial reduction was due to the fact that the defendant – who has already spent nearly two years in preventive detention – confessed to the attack and was granted a highly qualified mitigating circumstance for reparation of damages. As part of the conformity agreement, the convicted man will be prohibited from approaching or communicating with the victim for nine years, will face five years of supervised release after leaving prison, and must pay compensation of 14,000 euros.
The events were triggered at midnight on September 4, 2024. According to the Prosecutor's Office's filing, the aggressor arrived at the home in a state of intoxication and discovered that the woman had her luggage ready to leave, as she intended to end a romantic relationship that the Public Prosecutor's Office describes as an environment of domination and misogynistic contempt.
Upon seeing the suitcases, the man physically assaulted her and even attempted to strangle her. After leaving the house for a moment, he returned with a can of gasoline, placed it in the living room, and then continued to hit her in the face and head despite the victim's pleas.
Finally, he forcibly lifted her, soaked her with the fuel, and led her towards the kitchen under the death threat: "Everything is going to end today, I'm going to kill you."
The woman managed to save her life by taking advantage of a distraction from her aggressor to flee the home. The man pursued her down the street but gave up when the victim managed to take refuge in the premises of the Local Police of Villanueva del Pardillo. Subsequently, the defendant threw the gasoline container into a nearby dumpster.
