The El Escorial City Council has awarded FCC Medio Ambiente the new urban waste collection contract for the municipality for an amount of 17.4 million euros and a duration of ten years and six months, aiming for a more efficient and sustainable model.

The contract, signed this Friday, October 23rd, includes the collection of main domestic waste fractions (residual, light packaging, paper/cardboard, and glass) and the establishment of three proximity clean points. The company will also be responsible for container cleaning and supply/replacement.
A key innovation will be the comprehensive renewal of the vehicle fleet, incorporating ten new units, including electric vehicles, reflecting a commitment to sustainable mobility. Additionally, door-to-door collection of garden waste and commercial cardboard will be implemented to free up space in public bins.
The container system will be modernized by replacing current rear and top-loading containers with side-loading equipment, enhancing user accessibility and service efficiency. Technological innovation will feature smart monitoring systems and Recysmart technology in some packaging bins to optimize collection routes.
The mayor of El Escorial, Antonio Vicente, highlighted FCC Medio Ambiente's extensive experience and the contract's substantial improvements for resident satisfaction. The contract also anticipates creating stable employment by hiring 15 people.
