Las Rozas hosted the inaugural meeting of the PLANET consortium (Planning with AI for Next-generation, Equitable Transport), a European innovation initiative set to run until August 2028. The Spanish city serves as the sole pilot city in Spain, alongside Wiesbaden in Germany, to test and validate an AI platform designed to improve the development and monitoring of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans (SULPs).
The initiative, co-financed by EIT Urban Mobility and the European Union, aims to integrate local mobility data, geographical information, and specific regulations to automatically generate indicators and dashboards. The goal is to facilitate decision-making and the updating of mobility plans.
The European consortium is coordinated by Urban Radar. Tema Ingeniería will execute the pilot in Las Rozas, while the Transport Research Centre (TRANSyT) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) will provide the methodology and quality control. Rupprecht Consult is collaborating in Wiesbaden, and CityFi will handle project dissemination and market introduction.
José de la Uz, Mayor of Las Rozas de Madrid and President of Las Rozas Innova, highlighted the city's capacity to attract innovation and talent, positioning it as a European benchmark in urban planning and mobility.
Through its participation in PLANET, Las Rozas adds to its portfolio of 16 innovation projects, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable urban mobility and the application of artificial intelligence in public management.
Via Las Rozas Innova, the city will provide context, data, and real users to validate the solution, ensuring its applicability and procurement in other urban settings. The municipal company already developed the current Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Las Rozas in 2022, acting as a validating entity for the AI platform.
