The Biobank of the Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda University Hospital and the Puerta de Hierro-Segovia de Arana Health Research Institute (IDIPHISA) has obtained ISO 20387 accreditation, becoming the first center in the Community of Madrid to achieve this international recognition.
This accreditation, issued by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC), certifies the technical excellence, impartiality, and compliance with the highest quality standards in the Biobank's operations, guaranteeing the reliability of human biological samples and their data for biomedical research.
The Unit acts as a scientific-technical platform for the reception, processing, characterization, conservation, and distribution of samples such as blood, tissues, or DNA, voluntarily donated by patients. These resources are crucial for advancing knowledge and developing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
The Biobank is part of the Biobanks and Biomodels Platform of the National Center for Health Research (ISCIII), facilitating collaboration between research centers, hospitals, and universities nationwide.
Antonio J. Sánchez emphasized that integration within a leading public hospital and a research institute is essential to offer maximum guarantees in the management of samples and data, highlighting that the accreditation is a recognition of the team's collective effort.
This achievement reinforces the confidence of researchers, patients, and donors, ensuring that samples are managed with technical and ethical rigor, which contributes to improving the reproducibility of scientific results and the advancement of biomedical research.
