Residents of Torrelodones demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the environment in 2025, recycling nearly half a million kilograms of glass packaging, representing a significant increase from the previous year.

According to recent data from Ecovidrio, citizens of Torrelodones deposited a total of 495,171 kilograms of glass packaging into green containers during 2025. This figure represents a 2.3 percent increase compared to the previous year, a remarkable achievement in a context of general consumption contraction.
Each inhabitant of Torrelodones contributed approximately 19.5 kilograms of glass, equivalent to about 57 containers per person. This average is in line with the national average of 20 kilograms and 68 containers, and significantly exceeds the average for the Community of Madrid, which stands at 16.9 kg per inhabitant. In total, it is estimated that Torrelodones residents recycled around 1.7 million containers, translating to over 4,600 containers daily, almost three per minute.
At the regional level, Torrelodones ranks as the leading municipality in glass recycling among those with over 10,000 inhabitants in the Community of Madrid. It is closely followed by Pozuelo de Alarcón with 17.89 Kg/hab and Majadahonda with 17.87 Kg/hab, while the city of Madrid also shows competitive figures at 17.82 Kg/hab.

"In a year marked by consumption contraction, Torrelodones has managed to increase its selective collection results."

Carlos del Corte · Manager of Ecovidrio Madrid
The Councillor for Environment, Javier Tato, attributed this success to Torrelodones' historical commitment to glass recycling and the installation of 25 percent more new containers at the end of 2024 in previously underserved urbanizations. Additionally, specific campaigns targeting the hospitality sector have been implemented to promote this practice.
Glass recycling in Torrelodones during 2025 generated significant environmental benefits, preventing the emission of over 600 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, saving over 350 MWh of energy, and avoiding the extraction of 300 tons of natural raw materials. Ecovidrio also recovered an additional 1,634 tons of glass from urban waste treatment plants, reintegrating it into the production cycle.
