Torrelodones Early Music Festival Celebrates Tenth Edition

The event, established as a national benchmark, will feature film screenings, concerts, and family shows from May 7 to 9.

The Torrelodones Early Music Festival (FEMAT) is commemorating its tenth edition at the Teatro Bulevar of the Paco de Lucía Cultural Center, solidifying its position as a national cultural benchmark with a program running from May 7 to 9.

This special edition marks a significant milestone in the festival's history, having successfully established itself as an essential event in the cultural landscape. According to Ignacio Prego, its artistic director, these “ten editions reflect the maturity of a carefully curated artistic proposal, faithful to the spirit with which it was born.”

The program will commence on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 PM with a presentation by the director, followed by a screening of the film Farinelli, il castrato, an acclaimed cinematic portrayal of the legendary singer. Admission for this opening event will be free until full capacity is reached.
On Friday, May 8 at 7:30 PM, the stage will host the ensemble La Ritirata, an internationally recognized group in the historicist field. They will present Il Spiritillo Brando, a performance exploring the musical transition between Italy and Spain from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
Saturday, May 9 will feature a double bill. At 12:00 PM, Emilio Villalba, Sara Marina, and Elena Acosta will present Quixote: En un lugar de la música, a scenic music show for families combining puppet theater and live music. In the evening, at 7:30 PM, the ensemble Tiento Nuovo and the Italian theater company Teatri 35 will co-produce Il Lamento di Caravaggio, an immersive experience recreating live paintings (tableau vivant) by the artist Caravaggio with period music.
Over its ten years, FEMAT has featured prominent artists such as Enrico Onofri, Carlos Mena, Lina Tur Bonet, Thomas Dunford, Amandine Beyer, Fahmi Alqhai, Diego Ares, Alicia Amo and Música Boscareccia, Bruno Cocstet, Raquel Andueza, Maurice Steger, Seckou Keita, Jorge Pardo, and Hippocampus. This edition not only celebrates its history and commitment to artistic excellence but also firmly projects its future with the support of the Torrelodones City Council.
