The town of Torrelodones is gearing up for a weekend full of tradition and color with the celebration of San Isidro, which this year is extended in duration and once again coincides with the Plants and Flowers Fair. From May 15 to 17, the Plaza de la Constitución will be the epicenter of a traditional Madrid atmosphere, enlivened by organ grinders and wafer sellers.
Among the highlighted activities, on May 16, a zarzuela concert will be offered from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, accompanied by a stall selling buñuelos and pestiños prepared by the Homemakers' Association. On the same day, attendees can participate in the chulapas and chulapos contest, which aims to reward traditional Madrid attire. Registration is free and will take place at the event site up to five minutes before its start, at 1:00 PM.
“"We want to bring a sector, that of plants and gardening, to Torrelodones, which we are sure will once again be to the liking of our neighbors and visitors who will learn from specialists. At the same time, we like that the traditional spirit of Madrid can also be present in Torrelodones."
The jury, composed of representatives from the Town Council and the peñas La Cucaña and La Escombrera, will evaluate the fidelity to the traditional style, originality, and stage presence of the participants. Three prizes will be awarded to the winners of this competition.
Concurrently, the II Plants and Flowers Fair, in collaboration with El Campito Verde, will transform the town center into a meeting point for gardening enthusiasts. Nursery owners, florists, and small producers will display their best specimens and offer specialized advice. The fair's hours will be from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, thus merging festive tradition with a love for nature.
