The coalition Por Galapagar, comprising Más Madrid, Izquierda Unida, and Galapagar Importa, has expressed deep concern over the state of neglect and insecurity surrounding the construction of the future Primary Social Services center in Galapagar. The works, which should have been underway, have remained halted since November 2025.
According to information provided by the coalition, the awarded construction company unilaterally halted project execution on November 21st. The contractor cited technical unforeseen circumstances as a reason to request a cost increase, despite having only completed 2.3 percent of the project at that point.
The spokesperson for Por Galapagar, Maribel Ramírez, strongly criticized the current state of the site, describing it as "a hotspot of insecurity in a busy area for families, children, and the elderly" for months. She denounced the persistent presence of "an unprotected excavation and a fence that guarantees no one's safety" on the land.
Ramírez directly pointed to the "political responsibility of the Partido Popular," recalling that the contract was awarded to a company with a prior history of abandoning works in other towns such as Gijón and Getafe. The coalition emphasizes the lack of surveillance and adequate safety measures at the site, despite its proximity to a health center, a nursery school, and a park frequently used by minors.
A municipal legal report from February 2026 documents the intention to take "strong legal action against the construction company." In this context, Ramírez has demanded urgent measures to reinforce perimeter security and proceed legally against the company.
For its part, the Galapagar City Council has announced the achievement of an agreement with the construction company to definitively terminate the contract. This decision comes after deeming it unfeasible to absorb a cost increase of approximately 1.5 million euros over the initial budget.
The acting mayor, Ángel Camacho, acknowledged that the project "has caused many problems" from its inception. He attributed the infeasibility of continuing the works under the original economic conditions to the escalation in material prices and the cost overrun demanded by the construction company.
