The production, originally recorded at the Bregenz Festival in Austria, is noted for its striking stage design, which features a 24-meter-high monumental head. This version, recognized as one of the most impressive visual displays in outdoor opera, utilizes mobile platforms and symbolic elements to recreate the atmosphere of the French Revolution.
Audiences can view the performance at venues including Cines Embajadores, Conde Duque Auditorio Morasol, Mk2 Cine Paz, Mk2 Palacio de Hielo, Cines Zoco Majadahonda, and Kinepolis Pozuelo. The screening is part of an initiative to bring essential operatic titles filmed in international venues to local audiences.
The plot follows the fate of the titular poet, caught between his love for an aristocrat and political persecution during the Reign of Terror. The 130-minute production, performed in Italian, features an international cast performing the demanding roles of this verismo masterpiece.
Following this screening, the óh!pera Summer series will continue with other renowned operatic works, such as Carmen and Nabucco, which are scheduled for release in the coming weeks in the same event cinema format.
