The new canine unit of the Local Police of Galapagar aims to enhance prevention and surveillance within the municipality, as well as bring the police force closer to residents through educational and support activities.
The team will consist of a Belgian Malinois, assigned to operational and preventive duties. It will patrol key areas such as the urban center, parks, and leisure zones, and will reinforce drug control efforts. This dog will also participate in educational activities to showcase the work of police canine units.
The second member is a Springer Spaniel with extensive experience as a drug detection dog. Now, in its second phase of service, it will focus on therapeutic support, companionship, and socio-educational assistance, interacting in senior residences, nursery schools, and educational centers, and collaborating with students with special needs.
This unit complements the security strategy of the Galapagar City Council, which includes the addition of 15 new officers, a BÚHO Special Night Unit, 51 video surveillance points with a 24-hour control center, a Drone Unit, new police vehicles, and road safety systems like a fixed radar.
The Canine Unit will operate in coordination with other police units, such as the Drone Unit and the Tutor Officer, as well as with the Guardia Civil and other security forces, contributing to the progressive modernization of the Local Police.
