Following the completion of works on Escuelas street, the Galapagar City Council will activate a traffic control camera on June 8 at the intersection with the Villalba road. This measure concludes the installation of road safety devices across several points in the municipality, aimed at preventing accidents and enhancing citizen security.
This equipment is designed to monitor compliance with STOP signs and was the last of the four planned devices awaiting activation due to ongoing construction in the area. Once the work is finished, the system will start recording and penalizing detected infractions.
The implementation of these new traffic control measures, promoted by the City Council, seeks to reduce risky situations, prevent accidents, and improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
The decision to install these devices is based on preliminary studies by the Local Police, which identified speeding and risky behaviors. On a road with a 40 km/h limit, over 3,500 vehicles were recorded exceeding the speed limit in a single week, with dozens of drivers reaching speeds over 80 km/h.
Currently, Galapagar operates a fixed radar on the Guadarrama road (towards IES Infanta Elena), the photo-stop camera at the intersection of Escuelas street and Villalba road, a photo-pedestrian system on Soberanía street (near AhorraMás), and an improper turn control at the junction of Procesiones street and Soberanía street.
The City Council emphasizes that these measures are primarily preventive, aiming to encourage responsible driving, reduce accidents, and protect areas with high pedestrian presence, educational centers, or reduced visibility. They also support law enforcement in identifying vehicles involved in potential criminal activities.
