During a recent discussion on Radio Majadahonda, Rubén Murcia, midfielder for CD Quintanar del Rey, shared his thoughts on his team's current situation. The Cuenca-based squad, sitting in fourteenth place, is just one point away from safety and arrives in Majadahonda with significantly improved performance.
“"We try not to look at the standings, honestly. Since we changed coaches, our idea is always to go out and win the weekend's match and not look beyond that. But it's true that we all know we are 1 point from the play-out zone, and the goal is to win with the ultimate aim of staying in the category."
CD Quintanar del Rey's good run coincides with a period of weakness for Rayo Majadahonda, who have gone five matches without a home victory. Despite this, Murcia anticipates a tough match, different from those played at their home ground, San Marcos, due to the pitch characteristics and the opponent's playing style.
The Cuenca player acknowledged the quality of players like Juan Durán and Ilies at Rayo Majadahonda, who are having an excellent season. Faced with this challenge, CD Quintanar del Rey plans to leverage its own strengths, without attempting to match ball possession, but rather by capitalizing on their opportunities.
Since the coaching change, from Bolaños to Ferrandis, the team has shifted its focus, paying more attention to tactical aspects and set pieces. This new dynamic has led to a change in results, as demonstrated by their recent 1-0 victory against Fuenlabrada, a hard-fought match where they effectively seized their chances.
Murcia also recalled the first-leg match against Rayo Majadahonda, where the Majadahonda team failed to score until the 90th minute. This highlights CD Quintanar del Rey's ability to be strong at home and compete equally, regardless of the opponent's league position.
