This initiative, coordinated with the Community of Madrid Transfusion Center, seeks to exceed 200 donors over the two days. The campaign is specifically targeting residents of the northern area of the Community of Madrid, where the need for blood reserves typically increases during this period.
The marathon will take place in the Nursery Room, located in the cafeteria building opposite the hospital's main entrance, operating continuously from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM.
“"Make another life beat"
Students from the Julio Palacios institute are collaborating in this initiative as part of a Service-Learning project. Throughout the academic year, they have engaged in various awareness-raising activities, such as creating posters, graphic designs, and animation activities, integrating academic content with the promotion of blood donation.
The hospital, which serves a reference population of over 350,000 inhabitants, emphasizes the importance of donation to ensure a constant blood supply, crucial for surgeries, treatments, and emergencies. Basic requirements for donating include being over 18 years old, weighing more than 50 kilograms, not suffering from blood-borne diseases, and not donating on an empty stomach.
In addition to this event, the Hospital Universitario Infanta Sofía maintains its regular blood donation service on the ground floor, next to the extraction area, with hours from Monday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
