The decision to expand the Antonio Somalo Municipal Senior Center and optimize its services stems from a recent meeting with users, where various proposals were collected. This center, with over 14 years of experience and nearly 7,000 members, has become a fundamental pillar in Tres Cantos for promoting active aging and combating unwanted loneliness.
During the assembly, attendees expressed the need to improve facilities, diversify activity organization, and strengthen attention in the most requested services. Currently, the center offers over 40 activities and 111 weekly classes, with demand exceeding 1,700 applicants, covering educational, social, cognitive, and intergenerational initiatives, in addition to specialized services such as psycho-stimulation.
“"These proposals have been collected by the Government team for analysis and incorporation into future actions."
Construction for the center's expansion, which will add over 2,000 square meters to its area, will begin this summer. Furthermore, starting in September, opening hours will be moved forward to 9:00 AM. Planned measures include the addition of a second psychologist with a therapeutic profile, the reinforcement of activities with higher demand, and the improvement of registration systems through telematic tools, with in-person support.
The Council will also double the budget allocated to trips, recognizing them as a key tool for socialization, and will expand the range of activities, including free options during non-school periods. Additionally, access for seniors to digital tools and new forms of social participation will be facilitated, and a home meal delivery service will be launched to assist individuals with greater needs.
