The Alcobendas Art Center hosted the formalization of the Red Norte Estrategia ParticipaViva, an agreement spearheaded by the Alcobendas City Council. The primary objective is to grant citizens greater prominence and voice in decision-making processes affecting their localities, thereby strengthening local democracy.
The city councils of Algete, Belvis, Cobeña, Colmenar Viejo, El Molar, Fuente el Saz, La Cabrera, Navalafuente, Paracuellos, Pedrezuela, Rascafría, San Agustín de Guadalix, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Tres Cantos, and Valdeolmos-Alalpardo have joined this initiative. Representatives from these sixteen towns, including Marta Martín, acting mayor of Alcobendas, and Lucía S. Fernández, mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes, attended the event.
The network commits to carrying out joint activities and facilitating the exchange of successful experiences among the signatory municipalities. Furthermore, training will be provided to municipal technicians and citizens on participatory processes, residents' rights, and proposal submission methods, democratizing access to this knowledge.
Tools and resources, such as digital platforms and practical guides, will be developed to simplify the implementation of participatory processes. The network will also focus on raising residents' awareness about the importance of their involvement in public life and the channels available to influence municipal decisions.
This agreement will be valid for four years, allowing for medium-term planning and results evaluation. The network is open to the incorporation of other municipalities in the northern area, aiming for stable and growing collaboration for closer and more transparent public management.
