The Town Council of Villanueva de Perales has completed the signage and exterior identification work for the municipal football field, which now displays the official designation ‘Leonardo Gálvez’ at its main entrance. The official inauguration will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 11:30 AM, in the presence of family and residents.
The letters and municipal crest, made of laser-cut sheet metal and finished in black electrostatic paint, include LED lighting. This initiative is part of the ongoing plan to improve and enhance the municipality's sports facilities, continuing the refurbishment of the sports area on Paseo Castilla. The new perimeter signage enhances visibility, standardizes the corporate image of municipal spaces, and provides visible recognition to the hub for local football and the Municipal Sports School.
The Consistory states, “We continue to work on modernizing and caring for our facilities so that residents, athletes, and visitors can enjoy a renewed, safe environment that reflects the identity our town deserves.” The intervention reinforces the municipal commitment to promoting physical activity and supporting the various categories and teams that use these facilities daily.
Leonardo Gálvez Rodríguez, popularly known as ‘el Nano’, was an emblematic figure in Villanueva de Perales, born in 1940 and deeply committed to his community. After working in agriculture, he founded one of the first local businesses, consistently demonstrating initiative and supporting the growth of Villanueva de Perales.
His involvement extended beyond his professional life; he was a key figure and driving force behind many of the town's traditions and activities, actively participating in patron saint festivals, organizing dances and games. His great passion was football, being one of the pioneers of the first football teams in the town and continuing to play until an advanced age, embodying his philosophy of participation, sharing, and community building.
Over the years, ‘el Nano’ became a beloved local personality known for his warm character and anecdotes. He passed away in 2019, and the Town Council decided to name the Municipal Football Field in his honor, thus keeping his memory alive in a place closely associated with one of his greatest passions. Every time a child, youth, or resident steps onto that field, Leonardo's name becomes part of the town's daily life once again.
