The special program aims to recall the historical origin of the city, which dates back to the Royal Decree issued on May 2, 1492, in Medina del Campo. In that document, the Catholic Monarchs granted protection to the residents and named the settlement, marking a fundamental milestone in the municipality's history.
The commemorative events will begin on April 23 in the Pepe Machado press room with the presentation of a commemorative deck of cards, designed by Fernando Corella. On the same day, a plaque dedicated to the city's founders will be unveiled in the library of the Plaza de la Iglesia, in an event organized by the Pedro Rodríguez 'el Viejo' Association and Francisca 'la de Bártulo'.
Between April 24 and 26, the surroundings of the La Tercera Bullring will host the Foundation Market, which will recreate a Renaissance atmosphere with artisan stalls, food, and hospitality options, along with various entertainment activities. On April 25 and 26, the Teatro Musical Sanse association will perform scenes about the city's founding, and on April 25, a didactic concert focused on Renaissance music will be offered.
The program also includes visits to local heritage sites, such as the 17th-century caves and the Ethnographic Museum, scheduled for April 25 in two shifts. On the same day, the El Caserón building will host Renaissance dance sessions, with prior registration required. On May 1, the institutional act of the 534th anniversary will take place, with a traditional floral offering to the Catholic Monarchs at the sculpture in the children's park on San Onofre Street.
The celebration will culminate on May 2, the central date of the commemoration, with the traditional popular stew (caldereta) in La Marina Park. This event annually brings together thousands of people, including clubs, associations, educational centers, and local groups, solidifying this anniversary as one of the most prominent events in the festive calendar of San Sebastián de los Reyes.
