The Government has approved the construction of a new Commuter Rail stop in Tres Cantos, on line C-4b, with an investment of 19.35 million euros and an estimated 10,000 daily trips from its operational start.

The Council of Ministers has approved the tender for the construction of a new Commuter Rail station in the northern part of Tres Cantos. This project, entrusted to Adif through the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has an estimated budget of 19.35 million euros (excluding VAT) and is part of the Madrid Commuter Rail Plan.
The future infrastructure will be located on line C-4b, between the current stations of Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo. This area was chosen due to its significant urban activity and its growth potential in the coming years, according to socioeconomic studies conducted by Adif.
The decision to place the station here is strategic, as the surrounding area hosts Madrid Content City, considered Europe's most important audiovisual hub, a university campus, sports and leisure facilities, a hospital, and a substantial number of homes. The station is projected to generate approximately 10,000 daily trips upon opening, a figure that could double as the area continues to develop.
The station's design includes a carefully planned passenger building that is both functional and integrated into the urban landscape. It will feature two lateral platforms, each 220 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, partially covered by canopies, and an accessible multi-level connection between them. A striking design element is its stepped roof across three heights, which allows natural light and protects travelers from rain and sun, adapting to natural access flows from the exterior plaza.
Inside, the building will have a spacious, open-plan lobby, restrooms, staff areas, access turnstiles, automatic ticket vending machines, and a café with a terrace. The project also includes the partial urbanization of the access plaza, featuring reserved areas for buses, taxis, and emergency vehicles, as well as bicycle parking and a direct connection to the existing bike lane in the municipality.
The station will have two road and pedestrian accesses that will integrate with the urban planning being developed by the Tres Cantos City Council in the same area. Both administrations signed a collaboration protocol in 2024 to coordinate the joint development of the station, a nearby municipal parking facility, and access routes. Additionally, existing railway infrastructure will be adapted, including electrification, control, command, and signaling systems.
This new station is part of a broader set of improvements Adif is implementing on line C-4b, which include extending the line to Soto del Real to serve towns like Miraflores de la Sierra and Guadalix de la Sierra, and rehabilitating the historic Soto del Real station. More than 8 kilometers of track between Fuencarral and Tres Cantos will also be renewed with higher-performance materials.
All these works will adhere to sustainability and technological transformation criteria, utilizing the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology. The new station may also receive European funding through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), potentially reducing the cost for the Spanish administration.
