This Thursday marked the inauguration of the first completed segment of the M-607 expansion works. Exactly one year after the commencement of the project, the highway now features a new third lane along the stretch connecting Tres Cantos Norte and the southern bypass of Colmenar Viejo.
This road is one of the region's most congested, with over 62,000 vehicles circulating daily and systematic traffic jams during peak hours. The new lane aims to alleviate this pressure, while also improving safety and the condition of the road surface.
As of today, the completed section, spanning four kilometers between kilometer points 23.1 and 25 in both directions, is operational. Works will continue from this point up to kilometer 30.3, with an anticipated completion date in the summer of 2027.
The Community of Madrid has allocated 37.7 million euros to create nearly 15 additional kilometers of road. This project will positively impact over 246,000 residents across thirteen municipalities, including Tres Cantos, Colmenar Viejo, Manzanares el Real, Soto del Real, Miraflores de la Sierra, Guadalix de la Sierra, Collado Villalba, Moralzarzal, and El Boalo-Cerceda-Mataelpino.
The cycling lane connecting Colmenar Viejo with Madrid will remain open throughout the intervention, thanks to temporary detours that will ensure the continuity of bicycle traffic.
One of the project's innovations is the construction of an ecoduct, 60 meters wide and 140 meters long, near Colmenar Viejo. This elevated structure will facilitate the safe passage of wildlife, reducing roadkill incidents and marking a milestone as the first of its kind in the region.
