Since April 30, 2026, over 62,000 drivers who daily use the M-607 between Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo have begun to experience an improvement in their commutes. The Community of Madrid has put into service the first four kilometers of the new third lane, specifically between kilometer points 23.1 and 25, in both directions. This opening comes one year after the start of construction on one of the region's most heavily trafficked roads.
“"We continue to work to ensure that Madrid's roads are safer, better maintained, and offer better services."
The full intervention on the M-607, which covers almost 15 kilometers in both directions from Tres Cantos North to the southern bypass of Colmenar Viejo, will not be completed until summer 2027. Work continues at a good pace on the rest of the route, from kilometer 25 to 30.3, with an additional kilometer expected to be enabled in the coming months. The project represents a total investment of 37.7 million euros.
This expansion aims to alleviate the congestion experienced by thousands of drivers during peak hours, as the M-607, along with the M-501 and M-45, is one of the autonomous community's busiest roads. It is estimated that over 246,000 residents from 13 municipalities, including Tres Cantos, Colmenar Viejo, Manzanares el Real, and Miraflores de la Sierra, will benefit from this improved connectivity.
In addition to the lane expansion, the project includes the construction of an ecoduct or elevated wildlife crossing near Colmenar Viejo. This structure, 60 meters wide and 140 meters long, is the first of its kind in the Community of Madrid and aims to allow safe passage for animals, reducing the risk of roadkill. The bike path connecting Colmenar Viejo with Madrid capital will remain operational throughout the construction, with temporary detours in place.
