Algete to Host Children's Chess Tournaments in May

The Club Ajedrez Algete 2008 is organizing four category-based tournaments, with registrations now open and limited spots.

The municipality of Algete is preparing for a month of strategy in May with the celebration of children's chess tournaments, organized by the Club Ajedrez Algete 2008, bringing together young local talents.

Registrations are now open for the four categories, and all participants will receive medals and gifts. The Algete Chess Club has set a schedule spanning four consecutive Saturdays, ensuring each age group has its own space to compete.
The tournaments will always start at 4:00 PM. The first to compete will be the pre-benjamins (born in 2018, 2019, and later) on Saturday, May 9. A week later, on May 16, it will be the turn of the benjamins (born in 2016 and 2017). On May 23, the alevines (born in 2014 and 2015) will play, and the infant category (born in 2012 and 2013) will close the cycle on May 30.
The game format will be a 6-round Swiss system, guaranteeing that all participants play all six games, regardless of their results. The organization reserves the right to adjust the number of games depending on the final number of registrants. The pace of play will be dynamic to keep the competition fluid and entertaining. Additionally, players can choose to compete in higher categories by indicating this on the registration form.
To ensure quality and capacity, a maximum of 48 participants per category has been set. Registrations are done online and will remain open until all spots are filled. Organizers will update the initial ranking within 24 hours, and residents can check the participant list to verify their registration.
The games will take place at the Algete Chess Club facilities, located at Calle Alcalá, corner with Avenida del Cigarral, in the annex classroom building of Colegio Padre Jerónimo. The tournament adheres to FIDE regulations. In the upper categories (U12 and U14), the second illegal move results in forfeiture of the game, while for younger players (U10 and U8), a greater margin is allowed, with forfeiture occurring after the third infraction. The chief arbiter's decisions will be final.
Beyond the competition, the goal is to promote chess in a fun environment. All participants will receive a medal and a snack. The top three in each category will be awarded trophies. At the end of each Saturday tournament, a raffle will be held among attendees. Registration implies acceptance of these rules, including authorization for the publication of lists and photos in media outlets.
