Algete has received a double commendation from the Community of Madrid for its sports and health initiatives. Firstly, recognition has been given for the work carried out during the 2023-24 season with individuals over 70, an initiative now included in the region's best practices book. Secondly, a new municipal project has been selected among the top 13 for the 2026-27 season, positioning the town at the forefront of health and sports programs in the Madrid region.
The project for seniors over 70, titled 'Functional Assessments and Multicomponent Exercise Program for individuals over 70,' was presented on May 21st in Tres Cantos during the '+ Sport, + Health' event. This program, developed during the 2023-24 season, is featured in a publicly accessible e-book showcasing 70 notable experiences from municipalities across Madrid.
The new proposal for the 2026-27 season, developed in collaboration with the Algete Health Center, was chosen among the top 13 projects out of 127 submissions from 115 municipalities. This program will enable family doctors to refer their patients directly to the municipal sports service for specialized and free attention.
The program, scheduled to begin in September 2026, will offer free personalized attention and advice from a qualified professional, introductory physical activity workshops, healthy walking routes, and guided physical activity 'active points' in Parque Europa and the Santo Domingo area. Participation is free, requiring only a referral from a family doctor.
This preventive model aims to elevate physical exercise to the same level as any other medical treatment, promoting health through accessible physical activity for all residents.
