The Alcobendas Plenary Session has approved renaming the Distrito Centro Civic Center to Centro Municipal Alcalde Tomás Páramo, recognizing the mayor's work during his 1968-1976 term.

The Alcobendas City Council overwhelmingly approved on Thursday the renaming of the current Distrito Centro Civic Center to Centro Municipal Alcalde Tomás Páramo. This decision, jointly promoted by PP, Vox, and Futuro Alcobendas, pays tribute to the mayor who led the city between 1968 and 1976.
The session was attended by several family members of Tomás Páramo, remembered for the significant urban and demographic growth Alcobendas experienced under his administration. The PSOE and Más Madrid groups voted against the name change.
The Councilor for Culture, María José Ortiz, highlighted that the former mayor always prioritized "the well-being of the residents of Alcobendas" and fostered "a climate of peace and coexistence".
This honor is linked to a period of strong expansion for Alcobendas. During Tomás Páramo's seven-year term, the population grew from 5,000 to 50,000 inhabitants, marking the transition from an agricultural municipality to one focused on industry and services.
The declaration approved by the Plenary recalls key actions from that period, such as the construction of the old City Hall (municipal seat between 1972 and 1993), improvements in educational and sports infrastructure, and urban road surfacing. It also highlights the increase in school classrooms and the opening of a new Social Security clinic.
During the plenary debate, the priest of the San Lesmes parish nicknamed Tomás Páramo "the efficiency mayor," a designation noted during the session.
In the same session, a declaration from Vox on institutional transparency and public management was unanimously approved. The popular spokesperson, Marta Martín, recalled that Alcobendas has received the Infoparticipa Seal for the eighth time.
Furthermore, a motion from Vox, supported by the PP, on public housing and social aid was approved, proposing priority criteria for applicants registered in the municipality for over seven years.
Previously, PSOE and Más Madrid presented a proposal supporting early childhood education, which was approved with support from all groups except for the abstention of the PP. The mayor, Rocío García Alcántara, acknowledged the attending workers, stating that "you deserve dignified working conditions."
