El Molar is preparing to host its 19th Wine Fair, an event scheduled from October 2nd to 4th. The celebration will take place in a unique setting: the caves carved into the hill of La Torreta, a historic site where wine has been preserved for centuries and which today houses wineries, restaurants, and cultural spaces.
This fair, a fixture on the regional cultural and tourist calendar, attracts over 5,000 visitors annually. The event not only highlights its enological and gastronomic aspects but also serves as a tribute to the municipality's winemaking identity, within the Vinos de Madrid Denomination of Origin, and to the landscape of its ancient caves.
The program will kick off on Friday, October 2nd, at 7:00 PM with the official inauguration, featuring a proclamation by the mayor, Borja Díaz, and guest speaker Carlos Mazo. Following this, attendees can enjoy a tasting of local tapas and wine, accompanied by a traditional dulzaina street parade.
Saturday, October 3rd, will be a busy day with guided tours of the caves, the traditional grape stomping, blind tasting contests, and rosé wine pairings. Live music and children's activities, including traditional games and storytelling, will add to the festive atmosphere.
On Sunday, October 4th, the youngest attendees will participate in the children's grape stomping. Adults can engage in the 'porrón' (wine jug) contest or enjoy gastronomic experiences, while local wineries will offer tastings of sweets and wines. The fair will conclude in the Plaza del Privilegio with dulzainas and a traditional 'queimada' (flame ceremony).
Throughout the weekend, the fair will also feature an artisan market, an exhibition on the grape harvest, a painting exhibition by MolArte, and the photography contest “Entre Uvas y Vinos” (Between Grapes and Wines), promoting culture, art, and heritage.
