The Summer Youth program, driven by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has registered 6.4 million trips on trains and buses with discounts of up to 90% between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

In its fourth edition, the program has promoted the use of collective public transport among young people for efficient, safe, and sustainable travel. 66.9% of the trips were made by rail, while the rest were by road, on buses.
More than 1.5 million young people between the ages of 18 and 30 benefited from these discounts to travel across Spain. Of these, over half (56.8%) were between 18 and 23 years old.
The most in-demand destinations within Spain are concentrated in the Community of Madrid, Andalusia, the Valencian Community, and Catalonia. The most requested rail routes include journeys between Madrid and Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid, and Málaga and Madrid. For bus routes, those between Bilbao and Madrid, Granada and Madrid, and Zaragoza and Madrid stand out.
The days with the highest travel volume were the last three weekends of September 2026, with over 100,000 trips recorded on Sunday, September 27.
Discounts were applied to young people with Spanish nationality or foreign nationality with legal residence in Spain, born between January 1, 1996, and December 31, 2008. The reductions included a 90% discount on regular state-competent bus services and medium-distance trains, a 50% discount on single tickets for Avant and commercial long-distance/high-speed services (with a maximum of 30 euros per ticket), and a 50% discount on the 10-day Interrail Global Flexible pass.
The Summer Youth program, launched in 2023, has established itself as a successful initiative to encourage the use of collective public transport, reduce private vehicle use, decrease emissions and accidents, and foster new passengers. In its four editions, it has facilitated over 5.6 million trips for nearly 22.5 million young people.
This initiative also promotes the personal development of young people, enabling them to discover new places and cultures, strengthen social relationships, and boost the tourism and cultural sectors. The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to measures that encourage the use of collective public land transport among youth, benefiting the tourism and cultural sectors, and the development of rural Spain.
