Juan Carlos Nieto, a specialist from the Rheumatology Service at the Gregorio Marañón Public Hospital, has been distinguished with the 2026 Clinical Leadership in Rheumatology award during the 4th edition of the Healthcare Leadership Awards. These accolades, organized by the Health Observatory (ODS) and Estudio de Comunicación, aim to recognize excellence and leadership in the Spanish healthcare sector.
The selection of awardees was based on a rigorous and independent methodology, involving votes from 10,756 physicians and a jury of 33 prominent figures from healthcare organizations, patient groups, and communication experts.
The recognition highlights Nieto's professional work, which spans over 15 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience, particularly in Pediatric Rheumatology, musculoskeletal ultrasonography, and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. He balances these areas with university teaching and research. Additionally, he serves as president of the Madrid Rheumatology Society (SORCOM) and has been co-director of Rheumatology and Head of Quality for the Center for Immune-Mediated Diseases (CEIMI) at Gregorio Marañón since 2023.
“"This distinction is an incentive to continue working with the same responsibility with which he understands medicine: 'always putting the patient at the center of our decisions'."
Nieto emphasized the special significance of the award after 17 years associated with the Marañón, viewing it as recognition of his colleagues' work. His commitment focuses on combining high-quality care with research, innovation, and training, aiming to strengthen the hospital's position as a national and international reference in Rheumatology.
