An infrastructure incident at Atocha station has led to major delays on six Madrid Cercanías lines and Medium Distance trains during Wednesday's rush hour, affecting thousands of commuters.

Since early Wednesday morning, passengers on lines C2, C3, C4, C7, C8, and C10 of Madrid's commuter rail network, as well as Medium Distance trains, have been experiencing significant delays. The cause is an infrastructure breakdown located at Atocha station, as reported by the infrastructure manager.
The situation has generated considerable discomfort among travelers, many of whom are on their way to work. Trains have been reported stopped mid-journey, further complicating mobility during a period of high traffic.
As a result of this incident, circulation on line C4 has been altered. Trains originating from Parla are now terminating at Villaverde Alto, while those starting from Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes are ending their journey at Chamartín. Furthermore, C4b line trains beginning in Colmenar Viejo are reaching Atocha Cercanías. Line C7, meanwhile, is being diverted via O’Donnell.

"There is an infrastructure breakdown at the entrance to Atocha station, and C-4 line trains may experience delays and stops during their journeys."
