The exhibition, which can be visited for free until December 2nd at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, offers a journey through the Madrid of the Habsburgs.
Curated by Carmen Sanz Ayán, Alejandra Franganillo Álvarez, and Cristina Hernández Casado, the exhibition includes paintings, historical documents, numismatics, textiles, and furniture. The pieces come from over twenty institutions, including the National Museum of the Prado, the Casa de Alba Foundation, and the National Archaeological Museum.
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, highlighted during the inauguration that this period represents a “cultural milestone of universal significance,” whose legacy “determines the importance of periods like our silver age and all of contemporary culture.”
The exhibition is structured into sections addressing the origin of the Golden Age, Madrid as the heart of a global empire, its role as a financial center, innovations and challenges, as well as festivals and celebrations. An audiovisual piece complements the tour.
Coinciding with the declaration of the Golden Age Theatre as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), the exhibition also delves into the era's dramaturgy and associated technical innovations.
A comprehensive program of free guided tours for adults, adapted for sign language, will be offered. The exhibition, organized by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Office of the Spanish Language in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, is part of the actions to defend the Spanish language and protect the heritage of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Community of Madrid.
