The cultural programming of the Community of Madrid for this weekend will be highlighted by the start of the 13th edition of Surge Madrid en Otoño, the launch of Suma Flamenca Joven, and Nascencia, the first production by the Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid. The agenda is complemented by theater, dance, music, and exhibition proposals in cultural spaces and municipalities throughout the region.
The Suma Flamenca Joven festival will celebrate its sixth edition with four galas dedicated to emerging talents in singing, guitar, and dance at the Sala Verde of Teatros del Canal, from September 24 to 27. It will bring together 12 emerging artists, including performances by El Niño Ruven, Laura Reyes, Eleazar Cerreduela, Álvaro Moreno, Yolanda Mozos, and Aitana Rousseau, among others.
The 13th edition of Surge Madrid en Otoño solidifies the region as a meeting point for contemporary scenic creation, featuring 58 proposals and 37 absolute premieres across 19 venues. The program highlights the presence of female directors, playwrights, and performers, with premieres such as Última velada futurista para el presente by Nerea Lovecchio, Inframundi by Coral Ros, and Hermética by Constanza A. Aránguiz.
Teatros del Canal will also host Nascencia, the new production by the Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid, from September 24 to October 4 in the Sala Roja Concha Velasco. This contemporary Spanish dance performance explores human resilience through a fusion of folklore, flamenco, and contemporary creation.
Contemporary music will be represented by the Festival de Música Contemporánea COMA, celebrating its 28th edition at Teatros del Canal until October 27. The Choir of the Community of Madrid, directed by Javier Carmena, will perform on September 26 in the Sala Roja Concha Velasco.
The Teatro de La Abadía presents two significant productions: Libres!!!, directed by Andrés Lima and written by Esther F. Carrodeguas, which champions the fight for women's equality in 20th-century Spain, and El imperativo categórico by Victoria Szpunberg, a black comedy addressing labor precarity and loneliness.
The program extends to cultural centers and the Network of Theaters of the Community of Madrid, offering proposals for all audiences in municipalities such as Aranjuez, Mejorada del Campo, Valdemoro, Alcalá de Henares, and Rivas-Vaciamadrid, among others.
In the exhibition sphere, the Sala de Arte Joven presents Bitácoras. El valor de lo invisible, featuring works by ten artists under 35 until November 8. The Sala Alcalá 31 hosts Mitologías modernas: Ouka Leele & Co until October 18, and the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) in Móstoles exhibits Antidotum Tarantulae by Blanca Gracia.
