The Madrid City Council, in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), has unveiled the 13th edition of the charity race 'Madrid en marcha contra el cáncer', scheduled for April 19, aiming to surpass 32,000 participants to boost oncological research.

The presentation took place at the Palacio de Cibeles, attended by Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Delegate for Social Policies, Family, and Equality, José Fernández, and the Delegate Councilor for Sports, Sonia Cea. During the event, Almeida expressed the capital's profound pride in hosting this initiative, emphasizing the crucial role of the AECC as the leading entity in Spain dedicating funds to cancer research.

"It seemed impossible in the 90s to exceed a 40% survival rate, which today stands at 65%, with the goal of reaching 70% by 2030."

The mayor highlighted significant advancements in the fight against the disease, noting the increased survival rate and the target of 70% by 2030. To achieve this, he stressed the need for adequate funding and encouraged Madrid residents to join this solidarity cause, calling for collective involvement to support patients.
The race will be held on Sunday, April 19, starting at 09:00 AM. The starting point will be the Paseo de la Castellana, with the finish line located on the Paseo de Recoletos, near Plaza de Colón. Two modalities will be offered: a 10-kilometer route for runners and a 4.5-kilometer option suitable for both runners and walkers. Additionally, non-competitive children's races will be organized in the Jardines del Descubrimiento to encourage family participation and promote healthy habits from an early age.
Registrations will remain open until April 18 via the official event website. All funds raised will be entirely dedicated to financing oncological research projects and strengthening the support services that the AECC provides to patients and their families.
