The investment focuses on renovating facades and roofs, as well as replacing diesel boilers with aerothermal systems. These interventions, partially funded by the European Union and the regional government, aim to improve climate control, thermal comfort, and reduce energy consumption and dependence on fossil fuels.
This academic year, students and teachers are already benefiting from similar improvements at the centers of Alto Jarama (Torrelaguna), Salvador Allende (Fuenlabrada), Narcís Monturiol (Parla), Complutense (Alcalá de Henares), and Mariano José de Larra (Madrid). Reforms will soon be carried out at IES Juan Gris (Móstoles), Las Veredillas (Torrejón de Ardoz), and Gran Capitán (Madrid), with the latter fully funded by the regional executive.
The works include improving building envelopes, installing photovoltaic energy, solar hot water systems, renovating thermal installations, and utilizing high-efficiency renewable energy sources.
Additionally, the regional executive will allocate 1.240 billion euros to improve the climate control, energy efficiency, and accessibility of nearly 1,400 public educational centers, a plan announced by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, which will benefit over one million students.
This plan will be jointly developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities (with up to 840 million for 500 regional institutes and early childhood centers) and the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration (with up to 400 million for municipal facilities in 178 locations through the Regional Investment Program).
The Ministry of Education, Science and Universities thus continues its climate control plan, which since 2019 has carried out more than 1,500 actions in approximately 1,000 educational buildings with an investment of 59 million euros, to which 111 further actions worth 21 million euros will be added in the newly started 2026/27 academic year.
