The Community of Madrid will allocate over 11 million euros to enhance passenger services and Metro operations through the modernization of control centers and the maintenance of 601 transport ticket machines.

The Governing Council has approved the awarding of two key contracts for Madrid's underground system. The first, with a budget of 5.1 million euros and a ten-month execution period, will focus on expanding and modernizing station control posts. These centers, increasing from six to twelve, will allow each Metro line to have its own dedicated supervision post, improving remote monitoring and incident response capabilities.
The new control posts will be strategically located in stations such as Pinar de Chamartín, Ópera, Conde de Casal, Mar de Cristal, Sainz de Baranda, and Plaza Elíptica. This initiative also includes the adaptation of spaces for staff who will coordinate the future L6 line, which is set to become the first fully automated line by 2027, thereby increasing its capacity and frequency for the 430,000 daily passengers it serves.
The second contract, involving an investment of 6 million euros, will ensure the comprehensive maintenance of 601 ticket vending machines for four years. These tasks will encompass preventive checks and necessary repairs to guarantee the optimal functioning of these essential devices for purchasing passes and transport tickets across different fare zones.
This initiative complements the ongoing renovation of the ticketing system, which has already seen the installation of nearly 200 new units and plans for an additional 145 to be incorporated by next year. Furthermore, Metro is developing a video call remote assistance service to address queries and aid in ticket purchases. This feature will be available on 209 terminals before the end of the year and will be extended to another 144 in 2027, as part of the Estación 4.0 project.
